Hand in hand, the Pieratt family walked Larry to the gates as he flew away to heaven to be in Jesus' arms at 9:00 p.m this evening. Larry was a firm believer and follower; and knew that it was God's will to be done. God has other plans for him, as his work with us was complete.
The family was present, and we are at peace. While the void he leaves will be a significant one, we know in our hearts he is with us and we will see him again.
It is our hope and prayer that each of you can find the same peace and joy in your hearts as together we can celebrate the lives he has touched.
We will be making arrangements for services to "celebrate his life" and will communicate them as soon as they are available.
Our peace and love goes out to each of you as you deal with this in your own ways.
In His loving faith and service

Larry has touched a lot of lives. I think we will see that he has touched far more lives than he himself even knew. Please accept my condolences and please let me know if I can help in any way during this time. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

My thoughts and prayers go to the Pieratt family during this sad time. Larry was such a dedicated, hard working man with such an intense vision that spread to all those whose lives he touched. I know that I would not be the teacher I am today if it weren't for Larry and his vision of Horizon. He will be greatly missed.

An amazing spirit has left us, yet as I sit here at Horizon I feel Larry everywhere. Larry - thank you for all you did for education, for our students, and for me.

Please accept our love, prayers and deepest sympathies as well as our appreciation for the time we were able to share with Larry and your family. His ability to bring out the best in everyone he touched was wonderful as well as working relentlessly to help all of God's children, young and old, find their way and be the best they could be. All of us who were fortunate enough to have him in our lives know that celebrating the joy he found in all he did will be the best salute to his vision and his time on earth.
Much love and hugs to each of you,
Deborah, Ray and Megan Toolson
I'm going to miss Larry. It was fun having Kyle's dad at the school. Now it is almost time for us to go back to school. We will always remember Mr. Pieratt. We love you all!

Our deepest sympathy goes out to Brenda and the entire Pieratt family. I only knew Larry for a short time, but I can see he was a man of great love and integrity and he will be missed by all.
I am sending my deepest sympathy across the miles to Brenda, Larry's family and to the Horizon family as well. Larry was an incredible person with a great vision about education and the will to truly make change. I know that I was inspired by that will and I also know that countless children have benefitted from that will as well. He will truly be missed, but of course, his will lives on through those who continue his good work.
Please know my thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear about Larry's passing. He had an incredible passion for education and for leaving his mark on the world. I will never forget a talk that he gave when I was a teacher at Horizon. He discussed his faith and how he did not have any fears about death. I will never forget it because of his pure devotion and belief in God. It was an amazing thing to witness. I always admired his strength and ability to lead. My thoughts go out to his beloved Brenda, children and grand children. Thank you Larry for your countless contributions to your community and to all of those who were privileged to know you.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the Pieratt family. In the short time I was at HCLC, it was evident that Larry and Brenda were so special. The world of education is different because of the creativity and drive of Larry.
God Bless,

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Pieratt family. Although we knew Larry briefly, his commitment to HCLC was a blessing - especially to my family. May the eagle wings he had here on earth continue to fly above in heaven and may his family find peace in knowing that the Lord has Larry safe with Him.
Brenda,
Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I remember very well the day I went to the informational meeting about HCLC 13 years ago. Larry and Jan spoke of their educational vision and I thought to myself, "yes, this is what I've always wanted for my children." Words can't begin to express my appreciation for all Larry has done for creating a wonderful educational environment for my children. He will be greatly missed.
I know your faith will see you through this most difficult time.
Love,
Chris Fletcher and family
The Vandivort family has been deeply touched by all that Larry has done through the creation of HCLC. At that first informational meeting at Desert Cross, his vision and his obvious love of children brought tears to my eyes. His love of God and people never failed to show throughout the growth of Horizon, even during his illness.
What a blessing that Larry was able to attend the graduation of twelve of his first students on June 1. He can rest in peace knowing his mission was an enormous success.
Peace and love to the Pieratt family. We will never forget Larry.
Cathy Vandivort
It is with great sadness that I read of Larry's passing. My prayers and sympathies go out to Brenda and the entire family. Larry will be missed but he will live on in the children whose lives he has touched.

I would like to thank Larry for giving me and all the teachers that have worked for him opportunities to do the things that we do. Teaching is an art and there are many places in this country that never allow for this creativity and passion to thrive. His success in implementing his vision is a testament that we as educators do not need to be placed in a box and become stuck using mandated mundane teaching strategies to reach young learners. We live in a diverse world and there are many ways in which people take in information. Larry knew this and pushed the envelope attracting those like me who want this profession to mean something... we are professionals, ... we are talented people,... we are passionate,... there is a reason we were born,... we change the world!! Thank you Larry, you will be missed dearly.

His dreams were realiized and his faith was a living example for us all. Larry's work will literally live on for generations to come, both in your family, and in the families he had/will have a hand in educating. Horizon is what we have always called the "kinder, gentler school." Larry's legacy is a beautiful one, and we are blessed for having known him in this way. With tremendous love, respect and admiration...

Thank you Larry for being an example for educators everywhere.

Larry,
you have been a true inspiration, and your work will live on. Our two daughters will carry your message into the world after a dozen years at HCLC each, and I will do my best at ASU to continue making your visions come true. We will miss you dearly, but you will always be with us! Thank you.
All our love and prayers to the Pieratt family. He was a wonderful man, principal, father, and husband. I enjoyed working with him years ago when Horizon was just at twinkle in his eye. He changed the way people thought about education and taught us all a thing or two about love and family along the way. God bless you all!

What a beautiful and inspiring way to write about Larry's life and passing. Your family shows just how effective partnership with God can be even in a less-than-believing age. Thanks so much for your example of faith and Larry's example of community service.
As a family who was finally able to enroll children in HCLC two years ago, we're grateful for the high standards Larry has established in the school. We're feeling his influence now, and I'm sure we'll continue to feel it.
God Bless!

I have such great memories of Larry getting ready to start Horizon many years ago and sitting in my office at Desert Cross when I was a youth director talking about his faith and what great boys he had! Larry's passion for kids will always carry on with me! Thank you for helping me to see the passion and to fight for what you believe in! I am here for all of you and love you!

Our family sends our prayers and deep sympathy Brenda, to you and your wonderful family. I'm so proud to have known Larry and to be a part of his dream here at Horizon.

I never met Larry personally, but my children are in their second year at Horizon and therefore we share our second common bond--the first being our faith in Jesus Christ. My prayer is Grace and Peace--found in our Friend alone-- for Pieratt family and friends, one and all. Well done, Larry! Thank you for your example....
In grace,

Pieratt family, and especially Brenda,
My daughter just phoned and told me of Larrys' passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Larry had once told me that I was his "hero" for taking a leap of faith with a personal issue of mine.
I told him them that if he hadn't been such an insiration with his faith, believed in me more than I believed in myself, I wouldn't be the person I am today.
Larry has always been and will always be My HERO.
I still have "Larry the Lizard" and other HCLC memorabilia from the beginning of each school year from Larry and can probably tell you the significance each held.
Brenda,
Larry and you made such a good team. Your love and understanding was apparent each and every day.
I will keep you in my prayers. Give my love and prayers to the boys and their families.
God Speed, Larry!
Love Vicky Hogenes
Larry's vision for a compassionate school was what drew our family to HCLC, and we haven't been disappointed. It has been a blessing to have our children there.
Larry's legacy, in part, is that there are hundreds of families who have been able to say the same thing.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Pieratt family.

Dear Brenda and family,
Your family is in the hearts, prayers and minds of the hundreds and thousands of people changed for the better by their experiences with Larry and the vision he built.
I can say unequivocally that my time teaching with Larry greatly influenced my character and my future. It is truly an honor to have been at Horizon from 1996-2001, and a large piece of my heart remains there.
While Larry's inspiration and conviction will stay with me, in my mind I cherish the image of the smile which burst across his entire face.
Truly, the community shares your loss. May you be comforted by the love, prayers and condolences of many.
