First off...thank you to all for your continued prayers and loving support.
Larry is in a medically-induced coma being treated for pneumonia in his lungs. He is currently on a ventilator in the Critical Care unit at Mayo Hospital in North Scottsdale. We have had continued support, prayers, and requests for updates. We hope to use this blog page as a means of communicating to each of you as his progress changes over the days to come. You can subscribe to receive an email notification as soon as updates are posted.
Larry has been battling pneumonia since the July 4th weekend. And as a result of a compromised immune system from years of battling cancer, his condition is now critical. Today doctors have said his "trends" have taken a turn for the worse. The kidneys are showing increased levels of enzymes and are beginning to shut down. Doctors are doing everything possible to make sure he is pain-free.
We continue to love and pray for his recovery, but know that this is in God's hands now.
We will update you all as we know of changes...

Crista and I are praying for your Dad and your family
We are praying for you, all of you. Praying for peace, for a smile amidst the worry and tears, for a sense of closeness even during this tough time.
Please whisper in Larry's ear that he is loved, that work is going fine, his team stands behind him, and that we are here for him and for you, his family, any time.
All of you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Kyle, Please know that we are thinking of you and your family during this inexplicably difficult time. We have lived through and know the worry you are all going through right now. Your Dad is in our thoughts and prayers and know that if you need anything at any time, please call us as we are here for you.

I would like to thank Larry for giving me and all the teachers that have worked for him opportunities to do the things that we do. Teaching is an art and there are many places in this country that never allow for this creativity and passion to thrive. His success in implementing his vision is a testament that we as educators do not need to be placed in a box and become stuck using mandated mundane teaching strategies to reach young learners. We live in a diverse world and there are many ways in which people take in information. Larry knew this and pushed the envelope attracting those like me who want this profession to mean something... we are professionals, ... we are talented people,... we are passionate,... there is a reason we were born,... we change the world!! Thank you Larry, you will be missed dearly.

I knew Larry as a kind and deeply passionate man towards education.
He will be missed, but I for one remember ALL that he accomplished with Horizon. and for the kids...

Larry was such a visionary person! He knew "there was a better way" to educate our children, and he and his colleagues proved it with Horizon Community Learning Center. He will be sorely missed, but his family can rest knowing he did great things while on this earth.

My deepest condolences for the loss of your beloved husband/father. He was a good man and leaves an amazing legacy. I'm very thankful for the risks he took to establish HCLC. The school has been a safe and encouraging atmosphere for my children and they have benefited greatly.
